Dakshina announces The Dhananjayans Fund

I am excited to invite you to an unprecedented event for Indian arts in the DC area. Dakshina is the proud sponsor of the farewell performance tour of Srimathi Shanta and Sri VP Dhananjayan in the US during the fall of 2008. Dakshina is establishing The Dhananjayans Fund to bring leading dancers from India to DC each fall as way of honoring the living legends of dance in India. You can play a KEY role in the development of our unique dance company and bring Indian arts to the forefront in the DC area. Concluding an extraordinary career in dance, they will perform an evening of their renowned Bharata Natyam dances on October 25th, at DC’s historic Lincoln Theatre. As they prepare for their farewell tour, Dakshina is proud to establish The Dhananjayans Fund to commemorate the wonderful contributions of these amazing dancers, choreographers, and teachers. Help us continue the legacy of these eminent dancers.

We are currently soliciting Founding Donors for The Dhananjayans Fund at the $1000 level or higher. We have a unique Patron option at the $5000 level—the Patron will get to introduce the featured performance by the Dhananjayans on October 25th. This fund will be one of the first of its kind, set up exclusively to bring visiting dancers from India to the Washington DC area each fall. Join us on September 11, 2008 for our Wine and Cheese Fundraiser, and meet one of our guest artists for this Fall, Aniruddhan Vasudevan—you’ll get to see the important work we do in promoting Indian Arts by meeting an emerging dancer. Aniruddhan will be performing a short solo work at this reception

We’re asking for a $100 dollar donation to attend the reception. We have several exciting door prizes including an IPod, a weekend getaway, and some unique hand-crafted artifacts.
