Arts Management Internship

Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company is looking for a graduate student intern in arts management.  Dakshina is a 501c3 Not for Profit dance company in Washington DC and has emerged as a unique dance company combining Bharata Natyam and Modern dance; creating meaningful community collaborations; and find ways to further social justice work through dance and the ars.  The company is at a very important and exciting time in its development, preparing to expand the touring schedule beyond the DC area with a tour to India in the near future.  Dakshina currently hosts an annual Fall Festival of Indian Arts for the month of October that includes live music events and film screenings, culminating in a dance concert at the Lincoln Theater featuring renowned guest artists from India.  The company also has a full line up of performances throughout the year in addition to community outreach events.

Possible duties and responsibilities for the graduate student intern could include (this can be defined specifically for each individual intern):

1)    Attending all board meetings
2)    Assisting with the marketing of the company
3)    Fundraising
4)    Grant writing
5)    Assisting in the planning and marketing of the Fall Festival of Indian Arts
6)    Booking performances
7)    Working with Community Schools and Organizations to build Community Outreach
8)    Audience Development

Requirements

  • Must be available to work 10 hours/week
  • Must have an interest and experience in the Washington DC area arts community
  • Be able to work individually under minimal supervision
